Weekend spends by consumers jump over 150% in 2023 vs 2022; Noon and Evenings see most transactions for Fashion, Beauty and Services: Simpl 2023 Yearly Checkout Scan

New Delhi, XX December, 2023: Along with the festive season and crescendo dates, weekends are now emerging as a big demand driver for e-commerce in India with consumer transactions jumping over 150% in January-November in 2023 as against last year, according to Simpl 2023 Yearly Checkout Scan. Among the most preferred categories were fashion (apparel and footwear), beauty and services followed by groceries and travel with customers most likely to spend at noon (1-3 pm) and evenings (7-9 pm) over weekends. This trend comes on the back of a growing number of consumers using weekends to plan their essential and leisure requirements through e-commerce and accessing them through Simpl’s 1-tap checkout across thousands of enterprise and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) merchants.
In addition to this, transactions on services merchants including BookMyShow, Nobroker, Park+ and DriveU during weekends demonstrated a remarkable 300% surge, contributing prominently to the weekend spends. These consumer spends were also guided by festivals such as Navratri and Diwali and crescendo dates including Gandhi Jayanti, Republic Day and Independence Day, which contributed to long weekends and accelerated the demand for products and services online including fashion, beauty, travel and home cleaning services.

From January-November 2023, consumer spending on fashion merchants such as Myntra, Nykaa Fashion and Birkenstock grew over 3800% in comparison to the corresponding period in 2022. Additionally, transactions on services and beauty and personal care merchants recorded 78% and 71% growth respectively. This assumes significance as January-November 2023 had 15 long weekends, allowing consumers extra time to plan their spends. Here, tier-II and tier-III cities such as Udaipur, Kanpur, and Dehradun among others witnessed significant growth in transactions from January-November 2023.
